Crunchyroll x The Loop

AT WESTFIELD TOPANGA MALL, LOS ANGELES

Crunchyroll and Three Ten Merchandising Services announced plans for a new immersive experience set to go down at The Loop, a new rotating retail destination located at Westfield Topanga Mall in Canoga Park, CA. The Loop features “immersive activations, exclusive merchandise, collectibles, themed environments, and fan experiences inspired by the biggest entertainment brands in anime, entertainment, gaming, music and pop culture.”

My Role:

Directed concept-to-opening creative development for Crunchyroll x The Loop at Westfield Topanga, spanning scenic design, graphics, storytelling, interactive environments, and retail across three anime IPs: Sentenced to Be a Hero, Bananya, and Solo Leveling.

  • Oversaw creative direction of project from concept to delivery

  • Developed scenic design including 3D models, original graphics, and interactives

  • Worked directly with the fabricators to develop materials, finishes, and schematic design packages.

Retail

The retail space extended the overall Crunchyroll experience into a branded, functional store environment with a strong visual identity. Large-scale orange wall graphics, a neon Crunchyroll sign, modular merchandise shelving, display tables, a point-of-sale counter, apparel racks, and gashapon/token machines created a flexible retail layout that supported multiple IPs while still feeling like a cohesive branded destination.

Solo Leveling

Fight alongside Penal Hero Unit 9004 and join the war against the demon blight.

Designed as a layered fan-experience room, this space translated Sentenced to Be a Hero into a mix of interactive storytelling, photo opportunities, and behind-the-scenes content. Guests move across a world-map floor where the Demon Blight recedes beneath them, reinforcing the show’s hero theme, while dimensional character standees, embedded swords, a criminal line-up photo-op, and projection-based character highlights create multiple moments for exploration, discovery, and social sharing.

Bananya

Peel away from the action to find Bananya and its lively bunch of friends at a summer festival filled with various games and even a photo opp with an adorable plushie wall. Don’t forget to stay for the fireworks!

The Bananya room was designed as a charming nighttime festival environment built around a playful chocolate banana stand inspired by the series. Soft colors, lanterns, palm graphics, grass flooring, dimensional dessert standees, and layered scenic elements created a cute, low-pressure photo environment that translated the show’s simple charm into a physical, walk-through moment.

Solo Leveling

Do you have what it takes to become a hunter? Enter the Hunters Association to test your mana levels to discover your rank, class, and skills.

This room turned Solo Leveling into an interactive Hunter evaluation experience centered around a glowing Evaluation Crystal. After guests activate the crystal, surrounding screens animate to reveal their rank, class, and core skills, with occasional “S-Rank” glitches adding a fan-focused surprise moment; the space is supported by a large projection wall, key art, Jinwoo branding, and atmospheric textures inspired by the show’s evaluation room.
